Accuracy is a system requirement

Give the manufacturer a measurement requirement, not only an encoder resolution.

Engineering note / 4 October 2026

Start with the error budget

FLUX describes accuracy, repeatability and resolution as separate characteristics of its encoder families. State each requirement separately in the application brief rather than treating the number of bits as a complete measure of system performance.

Include the integration conditions

Describe the mounting arrangement, speed and control interface. Identify temperature, contamination and electromagnetic conditions so the selected encoder can be checked against its current datasheet.

Confirm the selected model

GMI and IND-MAX offer different feedback routes. Review model-specific accuracy, mounting limits and environmental ratings with the manufacturer before committing to a design.

This note helps prepare a technical brief. Product performance and application suitability require project-specific confirmation.
